Connect Camera To Headset

This video explains how to connect your action camera to your aviation headset.

UPDATE: Since the video was created I decided to replace the camera with a SONY instead. Which is a great modification that has smaller real-estate and doesn't hit the side of the plane as easily.

Great attachment

This Sony HDR-AS100V is a great camera to mount to an aviation headset, such as David-Clarke.

Mount

The camera is nicely attached to the headset and 2 wires (USB power & microphone) are connected into the camera

MIC: This connects to a lavelier microphone that is attached into the headset, which gives a great recording of the ATC and communications between the pilot / co-pilot

USB POWER: This powers the camera from a USB battery which can be put near the floor well away and not interfering with flying.

This efficient setup allows the normal airplane connections as well as a USB power which can be placed in the storage of the airplane away from the pilot (which ensure the battery doesn't interfere with flying)

Connector

The connector is attached to the frame of the headset using zip-ties, which is a great non-permanent solution.

Cables

2 cables are attached to the headset and allow to disconnect the camera easily.

Inter-changeable

This method allows to disconnect the camera from the headset and attach it to other types of headsets or mounts.

Flip

When you mount the camera up-side down you need to flip the record angle
-> Click NEXT 5 times - push the record button in the back
-> Click NEXT 1 time - push the record button in the back
-> Click NEXT to ON which means it will record upside down - or set to OFF to record rightside up
-> Click Record (in the back) to accept and return to the main screen
